In this occasion we are presenting you the most powerful Mac hard drive utility, the best way to keep it as fast as new!
Yes, we all know that Mac computers have the best performance of the market, but even they are susceptible to losing it after some time without proper maintenance. If you feel that your Mac has began to lose some speed, files take ages to load, or simply want to check what is going on on every hard drive connected to it? You want to clone your drive? Maybe get rid of useless file stored in the depths of your HD? Well, search no more, and keep reading to discover all the functions of this awesome software, so great that is used by Apple itself and Genius Bar members!
This program is so powerful that is divided into several categories, depending on what you need. We will talk a little about each one of them:
This section shows you every detail of any hard drive plugged to your Mac, both internal and external. Has a “General” view, with things like total available space, used space, free space, S.M.A.R.T. state, number of folders and file, and has a “Details” view, with more specific data, as number of blocks, last time of modification and more.
As the name suggests, this section lets you run a check-up on the selected drive and defragment files. This process can massively increase disk’s free space if it hasn’t been done in some time. Recommended for those who have big files like movies, and for the common users, as the software even tells you which files are fragmented.
This tool lets you recover disk space by removing unused files, duplicates, empty folders and more! You can select exactly what you want to remove and what you want to keep, so don’t worry about losing important files.
This one is for verifying, repairing and/or rebuilding directory information in your HFS+ volumes. Useful for rebuilding the internal file’s structure and correct some problems related to it.
The best way to check for defective areas in your hard drives, which if be used by the computer can lead to errors and data corruption. The software tells you Mac that those areas are damaged and cannot be used.
This tool runs in the background, and is constantly checking your drives in search of possible failures and repair them before they cause a real problem. Very useful if you are always working on large files, like in video or audio editing.
Simulates tests used by manufacturers to ensure the disk’s long-term reliability.
Lets you quickly erase and format a hard drive to create a new HFS+ volume, ready to use by your Mac.
This tool allows you to create, expand, shrink and erase disk partitions easily, with a pie graphic-interface so you have a more accurate idea of your movements. The only detail here is that you cannot modify the disk from where you boot, but that can be done in other ways.
Title says everything. Here you can duplicate (it’s a copy process, but at block-level, so it’s called cloning/duplicating instead of just copying). Excellent if you want to recreate your boot disk in another, like when you are planing to change main hard drive or upgrade to a new computer.
This option is for secure erase, which is erasing data beyond posible recovery. This is specially useful to delete all the traces of sensitive information. You can choose from many options, from 1 pass of random data to 35 (the most secure level, virtually imposible to recover any information).
Lets you runs speed and performance tests on your drive, and then compare the results with between disks. Is a good option for new hard drives, to find out the true speed the have.
A special option for experts only. Allows you to edit data at block-level. Don’t mess around with this unless you know what you are doing!
Mi personal experience
I got this program some time ago, and it has been one of the best additions to my Mac. It let me reorganice all my computer (MacBook Pro) and prepare a new hard drive I installed on it. It has never failed to me, and I’m sure it won’t. To be honest, I haven’t have the necessity to use all it’s great tools, but I can tell you that Defrag and DriveSlim™ are my favorites, as they let me manage all my disk’s space and helps me find unused files that are only taking away space, like the language files and 32-bits libraries.
