…“7-inch tablets are tweeners: too big to compete with a smartphone and too small to compete with the iPad” …Those are Steve Jobs words, the market has evolved since his dead and the new “threat” on Apple horizon it’s the rise of the mini tablets with Android. It’s not like they are even close to match the iPad sales but, an enemy it’s an enemy, more if the enemy its reducing money from Apple’s pocket. Today we get a lot of rumors in the web about a new iPad Mini, a 7 inch iPad, the same size that Android most common tablet, the Kindle Fire, same size that Steve Jobs doomed two years ago. Today the market it’s different and in Japan the costumers prefers a small tablet cause it’s more portable (I think it’s for the small hands) but the Android OS…well there’s a perfect word to describe it…mess, yes it’s a complete mess, and don’t hate me, that’s the reality.
Now, Apple has a moral choice here, yes moral; Steve Jobs was the guiding light in this huge company and now he’s gone but the 7 inch tablet market hasn’t, if Apple sells this Mini iPad at a price under the 300 USD dollars it will be a huge product but if it’s under 200 USD it will make Android’s tablets struggle, Google will cry with that price. The reason of why Google will cry it’s because the only reason to buy a small tablet is the cheaper price and yes, you have Android not iOS so you suck it up if you want a tablet but you don’t have the power to buy an iPad.
There are two ways for Apple here, respect the Steve Jobs idea and philosophy (which I have to say by this time he will be the promotor to destroy all the 7 inch tablets) and stick with the normal iPad, despite of what the costumer it’s willing to pay, Apple sells a product and doesn’t care if you want something else, cause they always try to give you more than you asked for with their products. The second way its less fancy for Apple: sell this new Mini iPad and kill Steve Jobs philosophy in exchange of a few bucks, and don’t blame Tim Cook on this one, I’m pretty sure he wants to respect Steve Jobs, blame the executive border, yes, those fat guys willing to do anything for more money. If this new Mini iPad sees the light I’m pretty sure that the opinions will be widely divide but I’m gonna buy it! Let’s wait and see what happens, maybe at the end it will be a love story for Apple and the market.
